Firewood guide

How to store firewood and keep logs dry

Even dry logs can soak up moisture if they're stored badly, and our weather doesn't help. A few simple habits keep your firewood ready to burn.

Keep logs off the ground

Stack logs on a pallet, rack or slatted base so they're not sitting in damp soil or puddles.

Cover the top, not the sides

A roof or cover keeps the rain off, but leave the sides open so air can move through the stack. A fully wrapped tarp traps moisture.

Use a log store near the door

A small covered log store by the back door makes it easy to grab logs in the rain. It's also a good spot to ask us to leave your delivery.

Bring a day or two's worth inside

Keep a basket of logs indoors so they're warm and dry when you light the fire. Don't stack logs right next to a hot stove.

Smaller, regular deliveries help

The less firewood you keep outside, the less can get damp. A monthly delivery means you only need to store what you'll use in the coming weeks.
