Firewood guide

How many logs do I need for winter?

It's one of the most common questions we get. The honest answer is that it depends on how often you light the fire, but here's how to work it out.

Start with how you use the fire

Think about a typical winter week. Is the stove a treat at the weekend, something you light most evenings, or your main source of heat all day? That matters far more than the size of your house.

A rough guide

Occasional fires at weekends and on cold evenings: a small monthly delivery is usually plenty.

Most evenings from autumn to spring: you'll want a medium amount each month, with a little extra in the coldest months.

Burning every day or heating the home with wood: plan for a larger delivery every month, and keep a reserve in your log store.

Dry logs go further

Wet wood burns poorly, so you need more of it for the same heat. Kiln-dried logs give more heat per log, so the same amount goes further.

Why monthly works

Instead of guessing a whole winter's worth in one go, a monthly delivery lets you adjust as you go. With WeeLogRun you can start on one plan and change it any time if you find you need more or less.
